HI I'M CLARK
In almost fifty years of working with wood my styles have changed from time to time but my love of the medium has always kept me interested in the possibilities. From bending it and sculpting it to now trying to give it a new life, be it an old attic floor rescued from demolition becoming a new kitchen or a grand old tree laid low by a hurricane becoming a fascinating table with a story to tell.
After Hurricane Sandy hit, causing so much destruction to the forest all around me, I witnessed how most of the trees were left to rot or cut into firewood. I started to see how salvage could be so much more than repurposing old boards.
While I have always worked with salvaged material to some degree, this post Sandy period has given me a new focus. I am now working almost exclusively with trees that had been destroyed by storms or construction, or died from natural causes. My goal is to give them a second life as a beautiful and interesting piece of furniture, with a story to tell.
